Skate Update: Daan, Dan and "Chima's the Man!"
Feb 2026 by Alex Winstanley

Every fortnight we bring you the best interviews and videos from around the skateboard world.

Daan Van Der Linden's "Spitfire" Part

Back in the day, style icon and 2007 SOTY Marc Johnson theorised that “there’s a panel of judges in skateboarding - ‘the dudes.’ And if they deem it’s cool? Then it’s cool…”
If you’re ever lucky enough to speak to one of these “dudes” in real life, they might just let slip who the most talented skateboarders of all time are. No matter the decade or the mood, we can guarantee that Daan Van Der Linden’s name will always be near the top.
The pint-sized Dutchman might not have the trappings of a career like Nyjah’s, owing in no small part to the fact that he really couldn’t give a shit. Just as his career was about to blow up with Anti Hero, Spitfire, Vans and Volcom, he pretty much sacked off skating to surf and go fishing. He’s intermittently jumped back on a board, most notably to make a few quid with Nike about a decade ago, but he’s never really had that definitive follow-up part.
Until now.
And yes, it has the footage from that cover...

Number Run – Remainz

Dan Magee is British skateboard filmmaking royalty. From cutting his teeth on Panic’s A Mixed Media, through the heyday of Blueprint, to the truly exceptional Blips – Cover Version, Dan knows exactly how to film and present skateboarding.
Though the pursuit of paying the mortgage has no doubt taken his filmmaking down other avenues of late, and now well into his 50s, Dan still occasionally dips his toes back into these cool waters, and his latest piece for Free Mag, Number Run – Remainz, just went live.
With an eclectic cast of British and European rippers, it might not be the spiritual heir to Waiting for the World, but it is two minutes of high-quality skateboarding filmed by one of the best to ever do it.
And that’s more than enough for us.

Chima Ferguson: Highlight Real

Twenty years. Just imagine that. For possibly longer than you’ve been alive, Chima Ferguson has been holding it down for Real, and he’s still one of the gnarliest bastards on the planet.
In an industry where careers are often measured in months, and five years makes you a veteran, going two decades deep with one of the most beloved brands in the game only serves to cement his legend in the annals of our favourite pastime.
Rather than handing him a gold watch and waving him off into retirement, Jim Thiebaud and the Real crew have seen fit to curate this career retrospective — a celebration of one of the greatest Aussies to ever do it.
Here’s to the next 20 Chima!
