Introducing the Nike SB Air Force 1 Yuto: Re-engineered for skateboarding and as light as a feather. Yuto Horigome lands his third collaborative colourway with Nike SB and is the first skater to put his stamp on the legendary AF1 silhouette. The two-time Olympic champ and April Skateboards pro has taken heavy inspiration from the OG Air Force 1 High from 1982, whilst hitting it with his own personal finesse.

The Yuto AF1 blends the understated colour palette of the original AF1 with sophisticated, considered details, something which has become expected of a Yuto signature shoe. On the upper, the Yuto AF1 is dominated by an off-white leather which is wrapped with an Iron Grey swoosh and underlaid with a perforated canvas sidewall for breathability, a look taken from an ’86 spin on Nike’s premier silhouette.

The cross-feather insignia on the outer heel has been an enduring feature on all three of Yuto’s Nike SB models, crafted by Japanese creatives Kunichi Nomura and Verdy, and a nod to the Horigome family crest. Elsewhere, Yuto’s lucky “7” sits behind a standout blood red embossed swoosh on the heel tab, and “Yuto” and “Air” are stamped on the Coconut Milk rubber midsole.

Continuing underfoot, custom Yuto sockliners (insoles to us Brits) are adorned with the feather emblem and accompanied by etched artwork of flowers and flaming birds (a hint of things to come, perhaps?). The Smoke Grey outsole matches the Swoosh, tongue tag and shoe lining, bringing together the final touches of this classy signature colourway for one of skateboarding’s finest.

Turning to the tech of the AF1, the iconic silhouette has been rebuilt from the top up, making skate-ready adjustments to take it seamlessly from the courts to the board. Blending the spirit of innovation that birthed the OG with skate-specific engineering, Nike SB deliver a lighter silhouette with a strong focus on boardfeel; the revamped version maintains the classic heightened midsole aesthetic but lowers the footbed and cuts the midsole in half to allow closer contact to the board.
