Skate Update: Brazil, Hills and Demo Thrills!

Though its impact on society was seismic and wide-ranging, one of the stranger consequences of the Covid epidemic was the apparent demise of the fabled skateboard co Supertour. Prior to 2020 and the ensuing lockdowns, US brands would criss-cross the States, traverse Europe and span the globe, with teams 15–20 strong, peddling their wares and entertaining thousands of kids (and adults) along the way.

And while we’re yet to see a return to the kind of demos that were once commonplace on this side of the pond, across the Atlantic there appear to be green shoots of growth. Last year’s New Balance ‘Running Numbers’ series felt like a full-blooded return to the halcyon days of old, if the Thrasher tour edit is anything to go by!

With Reynolds, Tiago, Foy and the rest in tow (yep, “the rest” means Aimu, Westgate, Villani, Wilkins, Schaar and more), this was the kind of venture that’ll be remembered for years to come. Let’s hope a brand or two sees fit to head over here this summer and give us Brits a few more memories of our own!

Discussing their first forays into skateboarding at Praça Roosevelt (17 years apart, no less), Rodrigo and Gui share their love for the São Paulo scene that birthed them before heading off around the rest of the city.
