Months of rumours, redesigns and teasers, Andrew Reynold’s signature NB Numeric silhouette is finally here. The 933. Blending New Balance’s skate tech together with the Boss’ unmatched attention to detail and experience, the 933 is prepped to meet and exceed all expectations. This is one we’ve been looking forward to.
New Balance have been going in HARD with the promo content for this shoe, which is probably an indication of how much work has gone into its development and the confidence they have in their latest signature shoe. There have been interviews, multiple behind-the-scenes videos into the design process, a Thrasher cover and now a showcase of the Boss in action (see below). Those NB boys have been spending the big bucks!
And it makes sense. The shoe, the 933, is a technical model (the higher the number, the greater the tech - that's how New Balance works) that NB and Reynolds have invested a lot of time and energy in, so it deserves a hell of a lot of shouting about.
So let’s talk about the shoe and its tech a little to see what all the fuss is about. The shoe is heavy on the running/sports shoe influences through a skateboarding lens, especially from heritage NB running shoes, namely the 990, because Reynolds wanted to focus on fit, support and feel, and, well, because it looks sick. Crafted from suede, breathable mesh and soft leather detailing, keeping it super durable with breathability for those long sessions, whilst underfoot especially, the tech comes out to play.
Let’s rattle through some of the techier details that live up to the expectations and scrutiny of the Boss for his NB signature model, one of the most anticipated skate shoes ever: ABZORB midsole absorbs impact through cushioning and compression resistance. An adhered toe cap adds extra durability in the kickflip area, whilst grippy herringbone to keep you stuck to your board, and the Controlled Reaction Device keeps ya stabilised. There’s a hell of a lot more to talk about, but this covers the more advanced tech side of the 933.
Baker boss Drew is nearly 47, so to those in their 30’s and 40's? They don't come bigger than Reynolds. But he is more than just Reynolds the skater of 10, 20 years ago. Even the youngest generation of skaters understand his influence on skating, the people he has given a platform to and the sheer power of his skating. He is the epitome of skateboarding: determination, skill, and meticulous finetuning. Much like this shoe. And the hope of landing a frontside flip like the one in this promo? Sign us up.
The Reynolds 933. Coming Soon... (14th May, to be precise).
