Converse x Carhartt
Two heavyweights of contemporary skateboarding collide as Carhartt WIP collaborate with Converse CONS, offering “Work in Progress” twists on two well-established Converse silhouettes; the low One Star Ox Pro and the mid Fast Break Ox Pro. The second meeting of these two streetwear giants is just as intrinsic as the first (who could forget the Carhartt Chuck 70s?), adopting the traditional earthy tones synonymous with the Carhartt brand - the matchup is seamless, and allusions to each brand’s history have clearly been important throughout the design process.
Already established amongst the ‘Mount Rushmore’ of workwear brands, Work in Progress was born in 1994 as Carhartt’s opportunity to break onto the streetwear scene. WIP have since become an unfaltering figure in streetwear, developing understated products that remain true to their hardwearing workwear roots. Both pairs of kicks from the CONS collaboration incorporate resilient fabrics such as canvas, leather and suede that evoke the personality of Carhartt WIP and conveniently make them perfect for enduring the rigours of modern skateboarding.
First dipping their toes into skateboarding culture in 1997, Carhartt WIP have stepped on the gas in recent years, releasing their first full-length ‘Inside Out’ in early February of 2022. Their team are a testament to their dedication to the culture, an eclectic collection of some of the hottest prospects on the scene; from Sylvain Tognelli and Rémy Taveira to the UK’s own Matlok Bennett-Jones, Carhartt WIP and CONS share a wealth of talent and some of the world’s most productive skaters.
Adapted from iconic basketball styles for skateboarding, both the One Star and the Fastbreak utilise CONS’ standard traction rubber outsole and a CX foam insole for superior grip and comfort; since the inception of their own skateboarding division in 2009, CONS’ commitment to reinventing their timeless styles with new technologies have asserted them as one of the most reliable choices in the industry.
