The Splits: adidas Skateboarding In Japan

Hungarian skate/travel film maker extraordinaire Patrik Wallner might be more famous for his series of videos collaborating with Red Bull and Skateboarder Magazine, but adidas recently commissioned him to showcase their Japanese skate team to the world and the results are every bit as impressive as his previous body of work.

A concept piece in parts, the name 'The Splits' is proper Ronseal (as in it does exactly what it says on the tin), the intro utilises Patrik's eye for creative flair and manipulates the previously explored idea of a split screen, but in whole new dynamic.

Introducing Shin Sanbongi, the seven minute clip could've easily have run the risk of becoming awkward viewing merely for the sake of it but the usage of double vision is kept to an interesting minimum and the genuine skate footage is allowed to shine in all its traditional glory.

All aspiring skate film makers should take note: though minimalist dad cam angles with a VX or TVR may be de rigeur right now, the call for beautifully shot skate cinematography will long out last the trends of the day. And for those of you who couldn't give two hoots about something like that? Well the spots and the skating are properly belting, so get yourselves stuck in either way!
